A quick and easy creamy Irish coffee featuring strong brewed coffee, Irish whiskey, and a luscious homemade whipped cream topping with vanilla and powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 oz (180 ml) freshly brewed hot coffee, strong and rich (dark roast recommended)
  • 1.5 oz (45 ml) Irish whiskey (Jameson recommended)
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • Β½ cup (120 ml) cold heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar
  • Β½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Brew about 6 oz (180 ml) of strong, hot coffee and keep it hot.
  2. Stir 1 teaspoon of brown sugar into the hot coffee until dissolved.
  3. Pour 1.5 oz (45 ml) of Irish whiskey into the sweetened coffee and stir gently.
  4. Chill your mixing bowl and beaters in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Pour Β½ cup (120 ml) cold heavy whipping cream into the chilled bowl. Add 1 tablespoon powdered sugar and Β½ teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form, being careful not to overwhip.
  6. Pour the coffee-whiskey mixture into a heatproof glass or mug, leaving space on top for the cream.
  7. Using the back of a spoon, gently spoon the whipped cream over the coffee to float on top.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle cocoa powder or freshly grated nutmeg on the whipped cream.
  9. Serve immediately and sip the coffee through the whipped cream.

Notes

Use freshly brewed, piping hot coffee to keep the cream from melting too quickly. Chill your bowl and beaters for faster whipping. Stop whipping cream at soft peaks to avoid graininess. Layer whipped cream gently using the back of a spoon. Prepare whipped cream last for freshness. Optionally sprinkle cocoa powder or nutmeg on top. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use a dairy-free whiskey alternative.
