A quick and easy refreshing summer drink made with fresh watermelon, lime juice, a touch of sugar, and optional mint leaves. Perfect for hot days and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600 grams) cubed seedless watermelon
  • Juice of 1 large lime (about 2 tablespoons or 30 ml)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (12 to 25 grams) granulated sugar (or honey/agave syrup as substitute)
  • 2 cups (475 ml) cold water
  • 56 fresh mint leaves (optional)
  • Ice cubes as needed for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups (600 grams) of seedless watermelon into cubes, removing any seeds.
  2. Place the watermelon cubes into a blender and pulse until smooth, about 30-45 seconds.
  3. Optional: Pour the blended watermelon through a fine mesh strainer into a large pitcher to remove pulp.
  4. Add the juice of 1 large lime and 1 to 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar to the pitcher. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  5. Pour in 2 cups (475 ml) of cold water and stir gently to combine. Adjust sweetness or tartness to taste.
  6. Add ice cubes to glasses, pour the agua fresca over the ice, and garnish with fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best sweetness. Strain if you prefer a smoother drink without pulp. Adjust sugar and lime juice to taste. Add ice just before serving to avoid dilution. Can substitute sparkling water for cold water for a bubbly version. Frozen watermelon chunks can be used but thaw slightly before blending.
