A festive and easy baked ham recipe glazed with sweet pineapple and studded with fragrant cloves, delivering juicy tenderness and a caramelized crust perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Bone-in ham (about 8-10 lbs / 3.6-4.5 kg), pre-cooked, spiral-cut preferred
  • Pineapple rings (canned or fresh, about 8 rings)
  • Whole cloves (about 20-30)
  • Brown sugar (1 cup / 200g)
  • Honey (1/2 cup / 120 ml)
  • Dijon mustard (2 tablespoons / 30 ml)
  • Ground cinnamon (1 teaspoon / 2g)
  • Ground ginger (1/2 teaspoon / 1g)
  • Apple cider vinegar (2 tablespoons / 30 ml)
  • Water or pineapple juice (1/2 cup / 120 ml)
  • Optional: Maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Prepare a roasting pan with a rack.
  2. Remove the ham from packaging and pat dry with paper towels. Score a diamond pattern about 1/4 inch deep across the surface.
  3. Insert whole cloves into the center of each diamond.
  4. Arrange pineapple rings over the ham, securing with toothpicks if needed.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, cinnamon, ground ginger, apple cider vinegar, and pineapple juice to make the glaze.
  6. Place ham on the rack in the roasting pan, fat side up, and brush generously with glaze. Reserve some glaze for basting.
  7. Bake uncovered for 1 hour. After 30 minutes, baste the ham with remaining glaze every 10 minutes.
  8. Check internal temperature aiming for 140°F (60°C) using a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part without touching bone.
  9. Remove ham from oven and tent loosely with foil. Let rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
  10. Optional: Garnish pineapple rings with maraschino cherries before serving.

Notes

If the glaze browns too quickly, tent the ham loosely with foil to prevent burning. Use a sharp knife to score the ham for better glaze absorption. Baste every 10 minutes after the first 30 minutes to keep the ham moist and flavorful. Let the ham rest after baking to lock in juices and make slicing easier. For a less sweet glaze, reduce brown sugar slightly. Fresh pineapple can be used instead of canned for added brightness.
