A quick and easy patriotic dessert featuring gooey marshmallows, crispy Rice Krispies cereal, and festive red and blue sprinkles. Perfect for Fourth of July and other celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (about 43 grams)
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows (280 grams)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal (approximately 180 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • ¼ cup red and blue edible sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch pan with butter or non-stick spray, or line with parchment paper with overhang for easy lifting.
  2. In a large saucepan over low heat, melt 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, stirring occasionally to avoid browning (about 3 minutes).
  3. Add 10 ounces mini marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until fully melted and smooth (5-7 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, if using.
  5. Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal in a large mixing bowl and gently fold together with a wooden spoon or heat-resistant spatula for about 3 minutes.
  6. Fold in ¼ cup red and blue edible sprinkles quickly to distribute colors without melting them.
  7. Transfer mixture to prepared pan and press down firmly but gently with a buttered spatula or hands for 3-4 minutes.
  8. Let the treats cool and set at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to speed up setting.
  9. Lift treats out using parchment edges if used, cut into squares or rectangles with a sharp knife warmed under hot water and dried.

Notes

Melt marshmallows slowly over low heat to avoid burning. Butter your hands or spatula when pressing mixture into pan to prevent sticking. Use a warm knife for clean cuts. Vanilla extract is optional but recommended for flavor depth. Can microwave marshmallows and butter in 30-second bursts as an alternative melting method.
