These festive witch hat cookies combine the crisp snap of peppermint with rich, velvety chocolate for a simple, fun holiday treat that’s perfect for parties and family baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 mini sugar cones or waffle cones
  • 12 peppermint candy disks (similar to Starlight Mints)
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon (14g) butter or coconut oil
  • Optional: 1/4 cup sprinkles or colored sugar
  • Optional: a few drops peppermint extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and gathering all ingredients and equipment.
  2. Melt the chocolate chips and butter (or coconut oil) in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second bursts, stirring until smooth and glossy. Alternatively, melt using a double boiler. Stir in peppermint extract if using.
  3. Holding a cone with tongs, dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat the entire outside. Lift and gently tap off excess chocolate.
  4. Immediately press a peppermint disk onto the base of the chocolate-coated cone, twisting slightly to secure it. Hold for a few seconds to set and place upright on the baking sheet.
  5. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle colored sugar or festive sprinkles over the cone if desired.
  6. Let the cookies set at room temperature or chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate is firm, about 30 minutes.

Notes

If chocolate thickens while dipping, gently reheat in short bursts. Press peppermint disks on immediately to prevent sliding. Store cookies in a cool, dry place to avoid condensation. Vegan and gluten-free substitutions are possible using dairy-free chocolate chips, coconut oil, and gluten-free cones.
