A simple, refreshing summer drink made with fresh watermelon, mint, and water, optionally enhanced with lime juice and sweetener. Perfect for cooling down on hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (900g) cubed seedless watermelon
  • 1012 large fresh mint leaves, washed and bruised
  • 2 cups (480ml) cold water
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons or 30ml) – optional
  • 1 teaspoon honey, agave, or simple syrup – optional

Instructions

  1. Cut seedless watermelon into cubes, about 6 cups (900g). Trim rind off the cubes.
  2. Add watermelon cubes and bruised mint leaves to a blender. Pour in 2 cups (480ml) cold water. Blend on high for about 1 minute until smooth.
  3. Strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to press the pulp gently to extract juice.
  4. Taste the juice and stir in lime juice and sweetener if desired.
  5. Transfer the strained agua fresca to a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Serve chilled over ice with a mint sprig garnish.

Notes

Use ripe, juicy watermelon for best flavor. Avoid overblending mint to prevent bitterness. Strain thoroughly for a silky texture. Adjust sweetness with lime juice before adding sweetener. Serve ice-cold. Can be stored in the fridge up to 2 days.
