A perfectly balanced fall cocktail combining smoky bourbon, tangy lime, sweet apple cider, and warm cinnamon. Quick and easy to make, this crowd-pleasing drink is ideal for cozy gatherings or quiet evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon (e.g., Buffalo Trace or Maker’s Mark)
  • 2 oz (60 ml) fresh unfiltered apple cider
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • ½ oz (15 ml) cinnamon simple syrup
  • ½ oz (15 ml) orange liqueur (triple sec or Cointreau)
  • Coarse salt (for rim)
  • Lime wedge (for rim and garnish)
  • Thin apple slices (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon stick (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice (preferably large cubes)

Instructions

  1. Make the cinnamon simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar, ½ cup (120 ml) water, and 1 cinnamon stick. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, steep for 10 minutes, discard cinnamon stick, and let cool.
  2. Prepare the glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass. Dip the rim into a plate of coarse salt to coat evenly. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
  3. Combine ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add bourbon, apple cider, fresh lime juice, cinnamon simple syrup, and orange liqueur.
  4. Shake with ice: Fill the shaker halfway with ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  5. Strain and pour: Strain the mixture into the prepared rocks glass over fresh ice.
  6. Garnish and serve: Garnish with a thin apple slice and a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a less sweet drink, reduce cinnamon simple syrup to ¼ oz or skip it. If you don’t have orange liqueur, add an extra ¼ oz of simple syrup. Use fresh lime juice for best results. The cinnamon simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
