A simple and forgiving slow cooker recipe featuring tender, juicy chicken breasts cooked in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce with a splash of apple cider vinegar for balanced flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 to 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 grams)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (60 ml), low-sodium preferred
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (15 ml)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar until smooth and well combined.
  2. Place chicken breasts in the slow cooker in a single layer. Pound slightly if thick for even cooking.
  3. Pour the honey garlic sauce evenly over the chicken, coating each piece well.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours until chicken is tender and easy to shred with a fork. Avoid lifting the lid frequently.
  5. If desired, remove chicken and simmer sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat until thickened, then return chicken to coat.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.

Notes

Use fresh garlic for best flavor. Avoid overcooking to prevent dry chicken. Apple cider vinegar balances sweetness. Can substitute soy sauce with tamari for gluten-free. Cooking on high for 1.5 to 2 hours is possible but watch closely to avoid drying out. Chicken thighs can be used instead with same cooking time. Leftovers store well refrigerated for 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
