A quick and easy immune tonic made with raw honey, fresh garlic, ginger, lemon, turmeric, and black pepper. Ready in 5 minutes, it’s a soothing and potent remedy for cold season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (170g) raw honey
  • 6–8 cloves fresh garlic, crushed
  • 1-inch piece (15g) fresh ginger, grated
  • Juice of ½ lemon (about 1 tablespoon / 15ml)
  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Crush the garlic: Peel 6-8 cloves of garlic and crush them using a press or the flat side of a knife. Let the crushed garlic sit for 5-10 minutes to activate the allicin.
  2. Add garlic to the jar: Drop the crushed garlic into a clean glass jar.
  3. Pour in the honey: Add ½ cup of raw honey directly over the garlic. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes without stirring.
  4. Grate the ginger: While the garlic rests, grate the 1-inch piece of ginger and add it to the jar.
  5. Add the turmeric and pepper: Sprinkle in ½ teaspoon ground turmeric and ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper. Add cayenne if using.
  6. Squeeze the lemon: Squeeze the juice of half a lemon directly into the jar.
  7. Stir everything together: Mix thoroughly until the honey turns a golden-orange color and all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  8. Let it rest (optional): Allow the tonic to sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before using to let the flavors meld.
  9. Taste and adjust: Adjust sweetness, ginger, or spice to your preference.

Notes

Let crushed garlic sit for 5-10 minutes before adding honey to activate allicin. Use raw honey for maximum benefits. Store in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. Do not microwave. For a milder version, use fewer garlic cloves and skip the cayenne.
